To make a day of it
Jagdhaus Gabelbach stands in Ilmenau (Ilm-Kreis), in Thuringia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Jagdhaus Gabelbach is a hunting lodge built in 1783 in the Thuringian Forest, a few kilometres south of Ilmenau. Duke Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach had it erected for his hunting parties, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed there repeatedly, carrying out his natural science studies on site. The building now houses a museum devoted to these visits and to the history of the surrounding Kickelhahn forest. Visitors can see the upper floor once reserved for guests, including the reception hall and the room where Goethe slept and wrote.
