To make a day of it

Heidenburg (Oberstaufenbach) stands in Oberstaufenbach (Landkreis Kusel), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Heidenburg, also known locally as the Herrenburg, is a ruined hilltop castle overlooking the Reichenbach valley near Oberstaufenbach. Neither its original name, its builder, nor the exact date of construction is known, though finds place it in the 11th and 12th centuries. It was once mistaken for a late Roman fortification because of reused Roman building stones, but this has since been disproved. Only a small portion of the ruins survives today, most of the site having been quarried away in the 19th century.
