Gut Holzhausen (Nieheim) stands in Nieheim (Kreis Höxter), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Gut Holzhausen is a historic manor and farm estate in Nieheim, in the Kreis Höxter, combining working farm buildings with a classical Schloss set within a moated courtyard. The von der Borch family has held the estate since 1483, originally as a fief from the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn, Simon III of Lippe. The oldest farm buildings date from the second half of the 16th century, built with heavy rubble walls and sandstone roofs from the Solling region, while the present Schloss, in a classical style with French Empire touches, was rebuilt in the early 19th century by the Kassel architect Hisner after the older Burg burned down. The complex, including its gatehouse, dovecote tower and former stables, survives largely intact and now serves mainly agricultural and cultural purposes rather than as a conventional visitor site.
What to know
- The estate is primarily a working farm and event venue, not a monument set up for conventional visits.
- No opening hours, admission fees or visit duration are given for regular public access.
- The complex includes an old gatehouse, a dovecote tower and outbuildings, forming a coherent ensemble best seen from outside.
- The Schloss itself, newer than the farm buildings, does not appear to be open to the public outside organised events.
- No information is available regarding accessibility or parking for visitors.
