To make a day of it

Fliehburg (Ittelsburg) stands in Bad Grönenbach (Landkreis Unterallgäu), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Fliehburg of Ittelsburg sits on the Falken ridge south of the hamlet of Ittelsburg, near Bad Grönenbach. It is not a castle in the usual sense but an earthen refuge fortification, shielded on nearly every side by steep slopes roughly a hundred metres high. Three earthen ramparts, each fronted by a ditch, blocked the only approach from the south and divided the site into separate areas once used for livestock, for weapons and resting warriors, and for women and children. The whole complex stretches about 500 metres and can be visited today as an open-air archaeological site, with no standing structures to see.
