Schloss Dürrwangen stands on the site of a former moated castle, on the eastern edge of the town of Dürrwangen along the Sulzach river. The present main building dates from the 1720s, though a medieval round tower survives at the southeast corner, a remnant of the earlier stronghold. The roughly 65 by 50 metre castle island is still bordered by a moat, once filled with water, crossed by an 18th century bridge.
