To make a day of it
Burgwall Glienke stands in Friedland (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burgwall Glienke was a Slavic stronghold, now vanished, that once stood southwest of the village of Glienke, at the edge of the Datze valley in the Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte. Known as a Slavic settlement site since 1969, the full extent of the fortified complex only came to light during construction of the A20 motorway, which allowed excavations across nearly six hectares led by the Neubrandenburg archaeologist Volker Schmidt. The stronghold, built in a single phase in the late 870s and renewed in the early 10th century, appears to have been abandoned after 957, possibly in favour of the religious seat at Rethra. No visible structures remain on site today, the findings having been recorded before the area was covered by road infrastructure.
What to know

- Finds from the excavations, including a type of Slavic pottery now known as the Glienke type, are kept elsewhere.
- The location lies in a rural area near Friedland, without any tourist infrastructure on site.
