To make a day of it

Burgstall Haselstein stands in Floß (Landkreis Neustadt an der Waldnaab), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burgstall Haselstein marks the site of a former hilltop castle, now vanished, in the Upper Palatinate Forest between the villages of Floß, Flossenbürg and Plößberg. The medieval stronghold, built atop a wooded summit, has left almost nothing standing, and its history is known mainly through fragments of pottery, roof tiles and arrowheads found there. In the 19th century the area was reshaped into a terraced festival ground, erasing most visible traces of the original structure. Restoration work completed in 2012 uncovered and partly rebuilt the remains of a tower, whose base can now be seen again.
