To make a day of it

Burgstall Eselsburg stands in Herbrechtingen (Landkreis Heidenheim), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Above the village of Eselsburg, on a rocky spur some fifty metres over the valley floor, lie the remains of a small medieval stronghold that no longer stands. Built around 1200 for a family of ministeriales serving the counts of Dillingen, it changed hands repeatedly before being abandoned in the late 16th century. What survives today is a rock-cut ditch and a few wall fragments, set in a quiet natural landscape.
