Burgstall Bruderhof (Scherstetten) stands in Scherstetten (Landkreis Augsburg), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burgstall Bruderhof marks the remains of a high medieval motte overlooking the Schmutter valley southeast of Scherstetten, Bavaria. The site consists of a fortified mound set within a broad system of earthworks, parts of which are still traceable in the terrain today. The mound itself, once the seat of a family of ministeriales serving the Bishopric of Augsburg and first recorded around 1250, now carries a private house built in 1933 and is not open to visitors. The outer earthworks and ditch remains in front of the motte, however, can be freely explored on foot.
What to know
- The top of the mound, occupied by a private house, cannot be visited.
- The earthwork and ditch remains lower down and to the east of the site are partly freely accessible.
- The terrain is sloped, overlooking the Schmutter valley, and involves walking on natural ground.
- There are no opening hours or admission fees, as the site is outdoors and not set up for visitor reception.
- The site is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Germany.
