To make a day of it
Burgstall Altes Schloss (Affalterthal) stands in Egloffstein (Landkreis Forchheim), in Bavaria, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
The Altes Schloss burgstall near Affalterthal survives only as an earthwork on the rocky spur of the Altschlossberg, close to the village of Egloffstein in Upper Franconian Bavaria. Nothing certain is known of who built this small stronghold, thought to date from the High Middle Ages, or of its subsequent history, apart from a possible mention in 1610 during a forest boundary dispute. What remains today is a roughly triangular plateau of about 35 by 25 metres, with stone ramparts, a ditch and scattered foundation remnants, including a round cellar depression and traces of what may have been a tower-like structure. The site is freely accessible and amounts to a woodland walk to a modest ruin.
