To make a day of it
Burgruine Streitburg stands in Wiesenttal (Landkreis Forchheim), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Streitburg Castle ruins stand on a rocky spur above the village of Streitberg in the Wiesent valley, facing Neideck Castle ruins across the gorge. First built before 1120 by the lords of Streitberg, the castle later passed through the hands of the dukes of Merania, the lords of Schlüsselberg, and the bishops of Bamberg and Würzburg, before being destroyed in 1553 and partly rebuilt. What survives today are scattered remains: a 16th-century gatehouse with a bastion, sections of wall, and vaulted cellars cut into the rock, one of them containing a dungeon. The ruins are freely accessible on foot from the village.
