To make a day of it

Burgruine Hals stands in Passau (Passau), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burgruine Hals rises above the Passau district of Hals, set on a narrow rocky ridge overlooking a tight bend of the Ilz river, the very feature that gave the settlement its name. Only fragments remain of what was once a formidable spur castle, seat of the counts of Hals who once controlled territory stretching to the Bohemian border. A rare wild iris, Iris sambucina, still grows among the stones today.
