To make a day of it

Burg Welschbillig stands in Welschbillig (Landkreis Trier-Saarburg), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

A former moated stronghold at Welschbillig now survives only as ruins, constructed atop a Roman villa site dating between the 2nd and 4th centuries. Among the surviving elements are a gatehouse flanked by twin round towers, remnants of a northwest tower, and a stone bridge that once crossed the moat. The site reflects overlapping eras, from its Roman origins through medieval construction undertaken by the archbishops of Trier, and today it hosts a parish church along with an 18th-century manor house.
