Burg Wadendorf stands on a hill in the village of the same name, close to the Wiesent river, within the municipality of Plankenfels. What remains today is a two storey main building, part of the southern ring wall with two round towers, and traces of the former gatehouse. First recorded in 1453, when the Bishop of Bamberg permitted its conversion into a proper castle, it survived the Peasants' War and the Thirty Years' War before undergoing thorough restoration in the late 20th century.
