Veldenz Castle, also known as Burg Nohfelden, stands on a rocky spur above the village of Nohfelden, in the Landkreis St. Wendel, Saarland. First recorded in 1285, the fortress survives mainly as a well preserved round keep and the vaulted remains of its former hall building. The site is tied to a grim episode in the history of the Dukes of Palatinate-Zweibrücken, when one of the sons of Duke Louis the Black was held captive there for decades. Today the keep's viewing platform gives an open outlook over the Nahe valley.
