To make a day of it
Burg Sulzbach stands in Sulzbach-Rosenberg (Landkreis Amberg-Sulzbach), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Sulzbach once stood where the present Schloss of Sulzbach-Rosenberg now rises, on a spur at the edge of the Franconian Jura, within the oldest core of the town. No visible remains of the medieval stronghold survive today: archaeological excavations have only traced, underground, the outline of a large main enclosure and an even more extensive outer bailey. The earliest written record of a castle here dates only to 1329, though archaeological findings point to a much older settlement, shaped by the site's strategic position along routes leading toward Bohemia. Visitors today encounter the Schloss built mainly from 1582 by the Palatine counts of Neuburg-Sulzbach, along with the later St. Hedwig convent founded on the same grounds.
