To make a day of it
Burg Schrabsdorf stands in Löwenberger Land (Landkreis Oberhavel), in Brandenburg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Schrabsdorf Castle is the ruin of a medieval motte, located in the Teschendorf district of the municipality of Löwenberger Land in Brandenburg. It is thought to have been built in the 13th century by the Ascanian dynasty to control a well travelled route southward, where a corduroy road once crossed a low wetland area. All that remains today is a square earthen mound roughly 40 metres on each side, set among meadows and fields, with no standing masonry visible above ground. The village that depended on the castle, first recorded in 1270, fell into decline after 1414, and the fortification was abandoned along with it.
What to know
- Only an earthen mound survives, with no walls or buildings still standing, as the remaining structures were dismantled around 1840 for road construction.
- The site lies in open countryside, away from any town centre, near the junction with the federal road B96.
- No opening hours, admission fees or visitor facilities are documented for this site.
- A visit essentially means viewing the shape of a former motte in an agricultural landscape.
- The site is protected as a Kulturdenkmal in Germany.
