To make a day of it

Burg Rode stands in Herzogenrath (Städteregion Aachen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Rode stands in Herzogenrath, close to the Dutch border, on a site held from the early twelfth century by the counts of Saffenberg. Its present tower, raised at the very end of the fourteenth century, still dominates the complex and serves as a local landmark. Having passed through the hands of the dukes of Brabant, the dukes of Burgundy and later the Habsburgs, the building long served as Herzogenrath's town hall before being entrusted to a local association. Its vaulted cellars now house a permanent exhibition on the Roman road.
