To make a day of it

Burg Nonnenfelsen refers to the remains of a former hilltop castle on a rocky spur above a bend of the Schwarze Pockau river, near Pobershau in the Erzgebirge. Likely established between the mid 12th and mid 13th century during the settlement of the region, it survives today as an oval plateau of about fifteen metres across, bordered by a still visible ditch. No standing structures remain, making it an archaeological site set in woodland rather than a castle with visible walls or towers.

  • The site lies about 2 km east-southeast of Pobershau, in woodland, without known visitor facilities.
