To make a day of it
Burg Neuleiningen stands in Neuleiningen (Landkreis Bad Dürkheim), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Overlooking the Eckbach valley at the edge where the Palatinate Forest gives way to the Rhine plain, Neuleiningen Castle survives only as a ruin perched on a rocky spur. Count Frederick III of Leiningen had it erected in the thirteenth century, giving it a rectangular plan flanked by four round towers, a design borrowed from early French fortresses of that era and among the earliest examples of its kind found in Germany. French forces set the castle ablaze in 1690, leaving much of it destroyed, though the southeastern tower was later rebuilt in the late 1800s under Count Karl Emich. Today that tower remains open to visitors and offers a vantage point over the surroundings.
