To make a day of it
Burg Montfort (Pfalz) stands in Hallgarten (Landkreis Bad Kreuznach), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
The Burg Montfort stands as a ruin on a wooded spur rising to 280 metres, between the villages of Hallgarten and Duchroth in Rhineland-Palatinate. Built around 1240 by the Counts of Veldenz to watch over a nearby military road, it was destroyed in 1456 after an assault led by the Archbishop of Mainz and the Elector Palatine. Long divided among several private forest owners, the ruin passed to the Bad Kreuznach district in 1969 and has kept the appearance it took on after its destruction, untouched by later rebuilding. Visible remains include the outer bailey, the gatehouse, the stump of the keep that can be climbed, and two residential towers standing up to their third storey.
