To make a day of it

Burg Laufenburg stands in Laufenburg (Landkreis Waldshut), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Laufenburg, also known as Burg Ofteringen, was a hilltop castle that once stood on a gneiss outcrop above the right bank of the Rhine at Laufenburg, in Baden-Württemberg. Nothing of the structure survives today: the site now holds a war memorial topped by a bronze eagle, on what has since been named the Warriors' Rock. It should not be confused with the much larger Habsburg-Laufenburg castle that once faced it across the river.

What to know

  • No building remains to visit: only the rock and the war memorial now standing on it can be seen.

  • The Rappenstein railway tunnel portal is located close by.
  • No visiting hours or fees apply, since this is an open-air site with no surviving structure.
