To make a day of it
Burg Hertenstein stands in Blaufelden (Landkreis Schwäbisch Hall), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Hertenstein Castle survives today only as an abandoned fortified site set apart from the hamlet of Billingsbach, in the municipality of Blaufelden. It stood on a rocky spur above the confluence of the Billingsbach and Rötelbach streams, once guarding an old trade route between Künzelsau and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. No standing walls remain: the ditch that once cut off the spur is still clearly visible in the terrain, while the rest of the site lies buried under dense woodland. The former keep is now reduced to a low mound of earth.
