To make a day of it
Burg Eppstein stands in Eppstein (Main-Taunus-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Eppstein rises on a rocky spur above the town of Eppstein, in the Main-Taunus-Kreis in Hesse. Founded as an imperial stronghold in the early medieval period, it later became the main seat of the lords of Eppstein before being split between rival owners and largely dismantled from the early nineteenth century onward. Visitors can see a truncated round keep, the remains of a great hall and a kitchen wing, along with a town museum housed in the one section that survived intact.
What to know
- The site is a ruin on uneven ground, reached either by a steep path from the west or across a bridge over the old moat on the east side.
- The round keep, originally 33 metres tall, now stands at 24 metres and can only be viewed from outside.
- A town museum occupies the one building that survived intact, originally built by the Archbishopric of Mainz.
- The site is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Hesse.
- No verified information on opening hours, admission fees or accessibility is available here; check locally or with the town of Eppstein.
