To make a day of it

Burg Eilenburg stands in Eilenburg (Landkreis Nordsachsen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Eilenburg stands on a rocky spur above the Saxon town of Eilenburg, on a site fortified as early as the early Middle Ages by Slavic settlers. What remains today are chiefly two brick residential towers from around 1200, known as the Sorbenturm and the southwest tower, along with a ring wall of the same period and a baroque administrative building. The site suffered repeated damage over the centuries, from wartime destruction to modern demolitions, including the loss of its keep, blown up in 1972 after a partial collapse. Visitors come here to trace layers of Saxon history stretching from the Slavic marches to the Wettin margraves.
