Burg Ehrenberg rises above the village of Heinsheim on the Neckar, facing the historic buildings of Gundelsheim on the opposite bank, forming with them a notable ensemble along the Burgenstraße. Founded in the early 12th century, likely by the counts of Lauffen, it passed by 1193 to the lords von Ehrenberg, followers of the Staufer emperors. Its 13th century keep, standing 50 metres tall, and the gable of one core building still remain amid a largely ruined complex, damaged during the Thirty Years' War. The castle remains privately owned and inhabited, and is not open to visitors.
