To make a day of it

Bodendenkmal in Vilsbiburg, #D-2-7540-0096 stands in Vilsbiburg (Landkreis Landshut), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The site of Schloss Geratspoint lies east of the hamlet of Geratspoint, near the Große Vils river, within the municipality of Vilsbiburg. Nothing of the building remains above ground today; the location preserves buried medieval and early modern remains of a former manorial castle. An engraving by Michael Wening from around 1726 depicts a three-storey baroque building with a hipped roof, long since vanished. The place is best understood as an archaeological trace rather than a visible monument.

What to know

  • No building remains visible on site, only farmland covering buried archaeological remains.
  • The castle was demolished in 1850 after decades of neglect.
  • There are no opening hours, fees or organised access since there is no standing monument.
  • The interest of the place is mainly historical and archaeological rather than touristic.
  • The old engraving by Michael Wening is the only known image of the vanished building.
