At Fortschau, a hamlet belonging to the town of Kemnath in the Landkreis Tirschenreuth, Bavaria, once stood a Hammerschloss, a manor house tied to a water-powered forge. The building has long since vanished, and only underground archaeological traces of the site and its earlier structures remain today. Over time the place served as a mill, an iron forge and later a weapons workshop before losing its industrial function in the early nineteenth century. There is therefore no standing structure to visit, only a buried archaeological site.
