To make a day of it

Alte Burg (Langenenslingen) stands in Langenenslingen (Landkreis Biberach), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Alte Burg is not a castle in the medieval sense but a large earthwork from the Iron Age, built between the 8th and 6th centuries BC by Celtic communities of the region. Set on a spur of the Burgberg hill at nearly 695 metres above sea level, the site is marked by a sequence of ramparts and ditches, including an unusually massive dry stone main wall for its period. Excavations carried out since 2014 have revealed a deep pit, thought to be linked to ritual practices, where human bones were found. Visitors come here as much for the walk and the landscape as for the archaeology, since the site survives mainly as open-air remains.
