In Saverne, the Château des Rohan stands on the site of a former residence of the bishops of Strasbourg, rebuilt in the late 18th century for Cardinal Louis René Édouard de Rohan. Only the west façade, designed by architect Nicolas-Alexandre Salins de Montfort, was finished before the Revolution halted construction. Completed under the Second Empire, the building now houses municipal institutions, including an art and history museum set in its ground-floor rooms.
