In the Aveyron countryside, the Château des Bourines began as a fortified granary in the 13th century, after the counts of Rodez granted the estate to the Aubrac hospital for storing grain and collecting dues. Its original keep, a courtyard ringed by four corner towers and a Gothic chapel still form an ensemble largely dating from the 14th century. Visitors can also see the gateway and inner gallery added in the 16th century by Cardinal Georges d'Armagnac, along with a wayside cross from 1579 standing before the north facade.
