In Sassenage, in the Isère department, the château des Blondes now houses the town hall. Built in the second half of the 18th century, the building owes its unusual name to a workshop where destitute young girls once wove a silk lace called blonde. Only the original façades were kept when the building was renovated, its interior having been entirely transformed.
