Château de Vaux stands in Jarzé Villages (Maine-et-Loire), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The château de Vaux stands in Jarzé Villages, amid the Angevin countryside, surrounded by water filled moats and a surviving enclosure wall that recall its original defensive role. The lordship dates back to the early fourteenth century, though the residence seen today was rebuilt in a neoclassical spirit between 1786 and 1821, replacing the earlier stronghold. Three towers, the fortified gatehouse and a chapel dedicated to Saint George, raised at the end of the thirteenth century, still bear witness to the medieval castle. The same family, the Gaultier de Brullon, has lived there since the mid eighteenth century.
What to know
- The château remains in the hands of the family that has owned it since 1750 and now partly operates as a private holiday rental, which limits a traditional visit.
- Inside, staircases make access difficult for visitors with reduced mobility.
- The property lies near Seiches sur le Loir, close to the A11 and A85 motorway exits, about twenty minutes from Angers.
- Visible from outside are the moats, the enclosure wall, the towers and the thirteenth century chapel.
