What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château construit de 1829 à 1835 par le maréchal Soult dans son village natal. Jardin à l'anglaise conçu à la demande du maréchal pour reconstituer un plan de bataille du Premier Empire et réalisé de 1828 à 1845. Au premier étage, un petit théâtre construit en 1864 présente beaucoup d'analogies avec le petit théâtre Napoléon III de Fontainebleau. Il s'agit d'une construction rectangulaire avec deux légers avant-corps sur les façades nord et sud. Les façades se caractérisent par une grande régularité de composition. Au-dessus d'un soubassement correspondant à un faux sous-sol et abritant cuisines et caves, s'étend un rez-de-chaussée organisé autour d'un vestibule à colonnes. Ce niveau est resté tel quel : bibliothèque, bureau, chambres du maréchal et de son épouse, petit et grand salons, salle à manger, ont conservé décors et mobilier. Cette décoration comprend gypseries et papiers peints.
