Built in the 15th century on a site held since the 12th century by the barons of Apchier, it later passed to the Molette de Morangiès family, one of whom organised hunts for the Beast of Gévaudan from this very building in the 18th century. Around an inner courtyard rise four round corner towers and a three-storey gallery dating from the 17th century. Since 1824 the building has housed a psychiatric hospital that remains active, which largely shapes what visitors can actually approach today.
