What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château construit à la périphérie de la ville au 17e siècle. De cette époque, l'édifice conserve la façade sud composée autour d'une cour avec douves. Derrière cet écran se déploie une grande demeure de la fin du 19e siècle, totalement réaménagée par le comte Léopold de Gironde qui créa un nouveau décor pour présenter ses collections d'art (tentures en cuirs dorés et polychromes). Au début du 20e siècle, un décor peint fut commandé pour la chapelle à l'artiste Paul Pujol. Ce château constitue un bel exemple de l'architecture de brique montalbanaise.
