In Réville, in the Manche department, a seventeenth century manor stands just a short walk from the Saint-Martin church, on grounds occupied since the Middle Ages. Burned down in 1591 during the Wars of Religion, it was almost entirely rebuilt by the late sixteenth century, then enlarged with a pavilion housing a Louis XV style drawing room built between 1737 and 1739. Classical facades, a double flight staircase and the remains of an old dovecote reflect this gradual reconstruction. The site also went through the Second World War, occupied successively by the French army, the Wehrmacht and then Allied forces after D-Day.
