Château de Pieusse stands in Pieusse (Aude), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century (?)). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
In Pieusse, near Limoux, a massive keep still overlooks the Aude valley, the remnant of a castle built by the counts of Foix in the 12th century. The property remains private and cannot be toured, though the northern wall and the keep can be seen from the village. The site is tied to a striking episode of Catharism: a council is said to have gathered here in 1225, bringing together around a hundred Cathar 'parfaits' under Guilhabert de Castres. Inside, hidden from outside view, painted 13th-century ceilings survive in remarkably good condition.
