To make a day of it

Château de Mottechaix stands in Vertou (Loire-Atlantique), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Mottechaix stands on a hillside above the Sèvre nantaise river, in the town of Vertou in Loire-Atlantique. Built around 1860 for the Le Cour Grandmaison shipowning family, it replaced an older manor house that had suffered repeatedly from the river's floods. Its colonnaded, balustraded façade draws on neo-Palladian style and is best seen from the river or the towpath running alongside it. The surrounding landscaped park still holds traces of a windmill and old orchards.
