The Montéclin estate in Bièvres is no longer a château but the trace of one: it was partially destroyed by a bombing raid during the Second World War, and its last remaining ruins disappeared in 1982. Visitors now come to walk through the 35 hectares of forest and former 19th-century parkland that once surrounded it, where enclosure walls, a grotto, stairways and a large rhododendron grove, planted using tons of imported heathland soil, still remain. The site combines a very ancient past, with traces of human presence going back to the Paleolithic, with present-day outdoor activities such as hiking and horseback riding.
