The château de Moncé stands in Limeray, in the Indre-et-Loire department, on the very site of the church of a Cistercian abbey founded in the 13th century. Built in the mid-19th century in a neo-Renaissance style, it retains nearby a 17th-century pavilion once used as the monastery infirmary, a dovecote, and four gate pillars, the only surviving traces of the vanished abbey. The pleasure garden surrounding it, laid out at the same time as the château, is listed in the preliminary inventory of remarkable gardens.
