The château de Maillot stands deep in the forests of the Doubs department, within the commune of Levier, away from major roads. Built in the 19th century on the site of an earlier residence destroyed by fire, it replaced several fortified buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. Owned by the de la Rochefoucauld family since 1933, the estate recalls a wartime Resistance group active in its woods during the Occupation.
