To make a day of it

Château de châteauvieux stands in Châteauvieux-les-Fossés (Doubs), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

Set on a terrace of the plateau overlooking the valleys of the Raffenot and Vergetolle streams and of the Loue river, Châteauvieux castle has occupied a fortified site since the early Middle Ages. Ruined under Louis XI and rebuilt in the early 17th century by Ferdinand de Rye, it lost much of its structure in a destruction in 1807, before being restored in the second half of the 19th century by the Boiteux family. Now in private hands, it can only be viewed from outside, on a spot that once guarded the salt route facing Châteauneuf.
