Above the Seugne river, near Jonzac, the château de Lussac stands over terraced gardens, rebuilt in the 18th century on the remains of an older, ruined manor. The low main building, flanked by two pavilions with steep slate roofs, overlooks grounds laid out by the comte de Choulot, complete with French-style flower beds, an orangery, and an old fish reserve by the water. Inside, the house keeps traces of 18th-century refinement, wrought-iron stair railing, carved chimneypieces, panelled salons, while outside a metal footbridge, a stone bridge and a stone fish pond are protected as historic monuments.
