To make a day of it

Château de Lumes stands in Lumes (Ardennes), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 15th century, first quarter of the 16th century). No visits are on record for this building.

At Lumes, on the banks of the Meuse, buried remains preserve the memory of a late 15th century stronghold that once guarded the approaches to Mézières. Excavations carried out since 1991 have uncovered a vaulted gallery lined with gun ports, along with the remnants of two large round towers and a smaller one. This is less a standing castle than a piece of military architecture brought to light by archaeology, amid buried ramparts and a former water moat.
