Perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Meuse river and the Montcy-Saint-Pierre district, the ruins of the château des Fées stand on a site occupied since the 9th century. Visitors come here less for a standing building than for a place steeped in history and legend, one that some scholars have linked to the fictional strongholds of medieval epic poetry. Excavations begun in 1984 uncovered the remains of a rectangular structure along with numerous artefacts now held at the musée de l'Ardenne.
