What the French Ministry of Culture records

Un premier site d'occupation est attesté à proximité du château aux environs de l'an Mil. Selon la tradition, la forteresse primitive aurait été bâtie en 1150 par Hugues de Brancion. L'ensemble s'organise à l'intérieur de deux enceintes. Trois châteaux successifs semblent avoir été construits et améliorés. Du deuxième château, détruit en 1565, restent deux tours rondes à archères et canonnières. L'édifice actuel date probablement du 17e siècle et fut remis au goût du jour au 18e. L'accès à la terrasse se fait par un portail cantonné de deux pilastres surmontés de vases de fleurs et d'une grille en fer forgé. Le château est formé d'un corps de logis rectangulaire, présentant une façade principale flanquée de deux tours carrées. La façade postérieure présente deux ailes en retour, reliées par un bâtiment couvert en terrasse. L'intérieur a été en partie réaménagé au début du 19e siècle, mais a vraisemblablement conservé son organisation ancienne. Les deux tours bordant la cour au sud contiennent une superposition de trois salles, la tour sud-est conservant des peintures murales et un plafond peint du 17e siècle. Un jardin, un parc à l'anglaise et un potager complètent l'ensemble.
