To make a day of it
Château de Landrecies stands in Landrecies (Nord), in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The château de Landrecies, of which no standing structure survives today, was a stronghold built in 1140 by Nicolas d'Avesnes on the right bank of the Sambre river, later converted into a bastion in the 16th century and absorbed into the town's fortified wall. What is known of it comes mainly from remains uncovered in 1896, during the dismantling of the fortifications: a rectangular keep with sandstone walls several metres thick, pierced by a gateway that still bears the grooves of its portcullis, along with a second vaulted building attached to its southern face. The whole stood within a square enclosure roughly a hundred metres on each side, reinforced with round corner towers.
