The château de La Motte-Tilly stands above the Seine, where the Aube, Seine-et-Marne and Yonne departments meet. Built in the mid-18th century to designs by architect François-Nicolas Lancret, it retains its courtyard of honour, its wrought-iron gate and a terraced park overlooking a canal. The house owes its survival to the Marquise de Maillé, who restored it in the 20th century before giving it to the French state.
