On a hillside above the village of Groslée, overlooking the Rhône, stands the square keep of a fortified castle built around 1180 by Jacques de Groslée, seneschal of Lyon. The seat of a lordship later raised to a barony and then, in 1580, to a county, the castle was altered in the 15th and 16th centuries before being dismantled in the 18th. Only the keep survives, ringed by a high curtain wall and round towers adapted for firearms.
